Cockroach Extermination · Richmond, BC

Cockroach extermination in Richmond that reaches the ones you don't see.

The cockroach found in most Richmond kitchens is the German cockroach: small, light brown, fast and almost always indoors. It spreads between units through plumbing and wall voids and arrives in boxes, bags and second-hand appliances. Tell us what you're seeing and we'll try to connect you with an independent provider who can deal with it properly.

When to act

When cockroach extermination is worth a call.

  • Small light-brown roaches with two dark stripes behind the head, seen when you switch on a light at night
  • Dark specks like ground pepper in cupboard corners, drawer runners and door hinges
  • Small brown capsule-shaped egg cases behind appliances
  • A musty, oily smell in cupboards that doesn't go away
  • Roaches out in the daytime, which usually means a large population

What to expect

Cockroach Extermination: what is involved.

For every cockroach you see, many more are hidden in warm, tight spaces near water: behind the fridge, under the dishwasher, inside the stove, in cabinet hinges. Killing the visible ones changes very little.

Foggers and bug bombs make it worse. The mist does not reach into those hiding places, and it drives roaches deeper into walls and into neighbouring units. Most over-the-counter sprays have the same problem.

Professional treatment relies on gel baits placed in small dabs where roaches hide, often paired with an insect growth regulator that stops young roaches from maturing. Roaches eat the bait, return to shelter and pass it on. Monitoring traps show where activity remains, and follow-up visits top up bait until the traps stay empty.

In an apartment, condo or restaurant, the building has to be part of the plan. Treating one unit while the unit next door is infested only buys a few weeks. Tell your landlord, strata or property manager so adjoining units can be inspected.

Step by step

From first message to finished job.

  1. Inspection

The provider checks kitchens, bathrooms and appliances and sets monitoring traps to find where roaches are concentrated.

  2. Baiting

Gel bait is placed in cracks, hinges and behind appliances. A growth regulator may be applied as well.

  3. Follow-up visits

Traps are checked and bait is topped up, usually every two weeks, until activity stops.

  4. Keeping them out

You get advice on grease, crumbs, cardboard, leaks and sealing gaps around pipes.

FAQ

Cockroach Extermination questions.

Does having cockroaches mean my home is dirty?

No. German cockroaches arrive in deliveries, used appliances and from neighbouring units, and they will live in a spotless kitchen. Food residue and clutter help them multiply faster, so cleaning supports treatment, but it is not the cause.

How long does it take to get rid of cockroaches?

A light infestation can be cleared in two to four weeks. A heavy one in a multi-unit building can take two or three months of follow-up visits, especially if neighbouring units are involved.

Should I clean before the treatment visit?

Yes, but don't spray anything. Wipe up grease and crumbs, empty the cupboards under the sink if asked, and leave the roaches alone. Household sprays can contaminate bait and make roaches avoid it.

Who is responsible in a condo or rental?

In a rental, pest control is generally the landlord's responsibility in BC. In a strata, an infestation that crosses units usually involves the strata corporation. In both cases, report it in writing early.
